Fold your sheet in half and cut it out using sharp scissors . Feel free to get creative with some wiggles if you like and remember that perfection is overrated so don ' t worry if you cut outside the lines !

Gently place your homemade stencil onto your cake , making sure the cake has been chilled well in the fridge beforehand . A cold cake is essential for this to work well . Smooth it out a little but don ' t worry if it doesn ' t sit perfectly flat . Nature isn ' t perfect and neither are we !
Starting with the lightest shade of green and whichever palette knife you prefer ( I used the smallest but I tested this on all of them and it works !) Scrape some buttercream onto the knife by tilting the knife slightly and moving the knife toward you ,. Then tilt the knife the other way and scrape away from you . This should form the v shape you see in the picture .
Step 8
Apply the buttercream to the bottom of the stencil . Use minimal pressure and move the knife away from you , up the tree .
