Carnatic Vocalist

SANDEEP NARAYAN

What did you do musically through lockdown ? Did you release new music ?
Initially , I uploaded a few of my practice sessions to social media , assuming that the lockdown would be short-lived . I realized very quickly that lockdown was indefinite , so I began curating content for my YouTube channel . The first was Krishna Nama Rasana in Ragam Rageshri for Krishna Jayanthi , and the second was a collaboration with Ravi G a few other talented artists on Nannu Vidachi in ragam Reethigowla . It was a unique experience as we were able to make an animated video .
Challenges you faced when recording your songs / making new music
My focus has always been live performance , so the first challenge was creating a home setup to record . Next was coordinating with other musicians . Many artistes got busy with studio work quite quickly , and it took longer than expected to put a track together .
How do you think the music scene can recover from the pandemic hit ?
I look forward to the time when we can travel and perform to live audiences , but until then , music has a new face . We have to adapt to the digital platform and make it as enjoyable as possible for the listeners . I hope that rasikas around the world continue to support artists virtually , so that we can continue creating music .
What can we look forward to from you now ?
Most recently I recorded a track with National Award winning vocalist , Mahesh Kale . It is a jugalbandi of thillana and tharana in Ragam Sindhubhairavi . It premiered in September during a live event , but the official track release will be very soon .
