The golf car culture we all know and love goes a bit off the rails at times and you can bet I will be there to talk about it in my yearly wrap up. We have a lot to cover, so let’s dive right in. The Beloved Villages, Florida It seems that the Villages wins the prize for the golf car community that is in the news the most. A retirement community with more than 120,000 residents and 60,000 golf cars, there is always some- thing wacky going on there. Residents who gave up their actual Corvettes to live in the community where cars are frowned upon, now have golf cars with Corvette bodies. Golf cars with under glow lights and doggie seats cruise around as if noth- ing remotely strange is happening. The Infamous Florida Man What happens when you mix the Florida man with a golf car? There were a few stories this year that let us know that nothing good will come of it. It finally came to a stand still when it hit a cash register. And don’t forget about the Florida man who was arrested while driving his golf car. He was driving on the street and was found to be three time over the legal alcohol limit. As if he wanted to relive his college years, the man was found with five bottles of Fireball in the golf car. How did he not learn in his 20s that nights that in- volve Fireball never end well? The U.S. Open Was Exciting In June, as the 119th U.S. Open kicked off at Pebble Beach Golf Links, a runaway golf car sped through the venue. Unfortunately, five people were injured bear the 16th hole. How could this happen? The golf car was loaded with boxes to be delivered to a nearby concession stand. When the driver left the golf car unat- tended for a moment, one of the boxes fell onto the accelerator and wackiness ensued.
