and present visitors to the Mountain, the owners of the Cog Rail way are considering building a
new facility on their property
that will offer visitors an experience more in keeping with the
luxury once offered at the Summit Hotels. The new railway
facility, if it were to be built,
would not be built at the summit,
but at a location about a mile
from the summit, known as Skyline. Until recently, this was the
site of a train siding that enabled
trains to pass one another. The
Skyline siding was removed several years ago. The railway has
replaced almost its entire fleet of
engines with new biodiesel powered locomotives that are faster
and
more
technologically
advanced. This has resulted in
explosive growth in ridership on
the railroad. The plan is to build
a new facility in the same location as the old siding, straddling
the tracks. Trains would pass
through the building enabling
patrons to be completely isolated
from the extremes of weather
when disembarking.
