Laurette Ouimette
LAURETTE OUIMETTE
SHERBROOKE – Laurette( Corriveau) Ouimette passed away peacefully in her sleep in Sherbrooke, Que., on Wednesday, Dec. 28, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1932, to Adolphe and Beatrice( St. Pierre) in Weedon / Stornoway, Que.
She was raised in Stornoway and later moved to Compton. She attended the University and received her Bookkeeping Diploma. She worked as a teacher soon after. In 1951, she married the love of her life and father of her children, Marcel Ouimette, at her parents’ home in Compton. As a young woman, she was featured on local television, performing. She had a beautiful singing voice. She was a regular in the church choir as well. Folks could often hear her singing at the annual Corriveau family reunions every year.
She lived for a time in Barre, Vt., before relocating to Colebrook in 1957 to run the family farm. Her time as a housewife, farm hand, and later mother were the times she cherished the most. They often boarded people and always made everyone feel welcome at their home.
They raised three boys on the farm – Reginald, Roger, and Daniel. When they were all grown and had families of their own, Marcel decided it was time to sell the farm. In 1980, they moved to Canada to semi-retire. Laurette was hesitant to do so, since she enjoyed farm life and having her family close. They moved into a beautiful home in Coaticook where they entertained many friends and family members for years to come. She also won an award for her beautiful flower gardens that surrounded their home. She traveled with Marcel to Florida several times, visited Europe, Hawaii, and toured the entire United States. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile. She truly was a loving and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband Marcel in 1992 and her son Roger in 2004.
She leaves behind her sons, Reginald and Monique Ouimette of Stuart, Fla., and Daniel and Sherri Moore Ouimette of Colebrook, and daughter-in-law
Helen Chalisoux; four granddaughters; five grandsons; and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her four sisters, Marie Paul and the late Leo, Simone and Roger, Monique and Gabby, Marguerite and Robert, and Rejenne and Paul; as well as her brother Doris and his daughter Lucie, and several other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Monday, Jan. 2, from 9 a. m. to 2 p. m. at Charrons Funeral Home in Coaticook, Que. Her funeral will follow at St. Edmonds Church, also in Coaticook, at 2 p. m.
