Want something to save your soul?

Shivneil Pillay

SOS by SZA released on December 9th, inducing everyone to tap into their sensual hot girl era. SZA came back after five years from “CTRL” to save her deprived fans from a world without “szanese." The entire album seeped with her emotions, and it gave the listener a sense of what she was going through during that time gap. Tracks like “Kill Bill,” “Low,” “Nobody Gets Me,” “F2F,” “Smokin’ On My Ex Pack,” and “Ghost in the Machine” were favorites of the album because of SZA dabbling into different styles of music. We see SZA enter eras of soft indie pop, rap caviar, and pop rock with these said tracks. SZA is an artist that can truly claim the art of versatility and executing it well because we know some artists out here aren’t eating it up like her!

“She writes in a way that is unique to her” said Ariana Grande, or the unofficial queen of pop. We see that in many tracks with songs like “Conceited” and “Notice Me."

SZA, time again with every project she releases, plants her spot as one of the top R&B girls alongside Ms. Aiko, Summer Walker, and Kehlani.

I give this album an 8/10 because of how long miss girl starved us!

SOS tour starts February 21st with her coming to Seattle on March 16th in the Climate Pledge Arena. Make sure to save your soul in person!

versatility and executing it well...

SZA's new album, SOS, is another example of her execution of emotion and her musical love language. Here are some tracks that really took the public by storm. "Kill Bill" was an explicit example of her storytelling abilities and revealed the climax of  SOS. "Low" saw SZA taking a step out of her comfort zone and exploring a different genre.  "F2F" showed that coping means coming to terms with reality, even if it hurts. Finally,  "Nobody Gets Me" was where she entered a vulnerable state and shared the last cry. This album is the epitome of the five stages of grief: the build up, the hurt, the ease, the regret, and the self-acceptance. Overall, I was truly amazed by what she had to offer with this album, which leads me to give it an 8/10. If you haven't already, make sure to give SZA's new album SOS a listen!

Time and time again, SZA brings relatable and mesmerizing music that's yet to be beat by other artists.
