My personal development journey began back when I was still married . I had started a Mary Kay business to try to bring in some extra money . It was doing well , but I wasn ’ t creating the kinds of results I really wanted . Then , the company suggested that all of its reps read Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins .
I was floored . This was amazing stuff . I felt like a whole new world of possibility had opened up for me . When I heard that Tony was holding an “ Unleash the Power Within ” seminar near where I lived , I immediately registered . While there , I realized that I had been playing small in my life , and it was time to step up my game !
I started listening to industry leaders like Napoleon Hill , Jim Rohn , and Zig Ziglar , among others . I couldn ’ t get enough . I listened to their products when I was at the gym , as I was driving , and while I was working around the house . I was like a sponge , soaking up all of this new information .
As my attitude and confidence improved , my Mary Kay business soared . I became a top sales director in the company , responsible for managing and motivating my own team . This required me to step up , speak publicly , and lead meetings — something with which I had always been uncomfortable .
But soon , I began to notice something : the more I worked on myself , the more I attracted people who were like me . The quality and motivation of my recruits improved , which resulted in better production for my team , which resulted in greater success for me in the business , which in turn created a whole new circle of influence . It was a total success spiral .
I also got a lot of pushback during this time . Those who weren ’ t aligned with what I was learning and creating ( including my husband ) told me I was being brainwashed and coerced , and that I was out of my mind with this “ woo-woo ” stuff . I simply thanked them for their opinions , and stopped sharing information with them . I was on my own journey .
When my divorce happened , I experienced the polar opposite of my success spiral . I needed time to deal with my personal issues and get through the divorce , but that meant that I was less available to motivate and coach my Mary Kay team . Production went down , and my team started to unravel . The more my sales stagnated , the more my mindset shifted from empowered and positive to fearful and negative . Catabolic energy took over , and I plunged into a downward spiral that ended with my business crumbling . Years of effort , all gone in just a few months .
What I learned from this ( aside from the fact that I needed to create a business that didn ’ t rely solely on my daily efforts for its success ) was that my mindset was paramount to my success . When I decided to dive into the real estate world , I drew on everything I had learned during my time with Mary Kay , especially the personal development practices I ’ d let slide during the stress of my divorce . Creating a success spiral was easier the second time around because I already knew the power and influence of my beliefs , thoughts , and spiritual practices on my success .
Spirituality and personal development are a huge part of cultivating a positive mindset and creating a success spiral . Why ? Because this work helps you become
