OH, THE HORROR!
BY LEE PLATT
Last month , I had the pleasure of attending the International Toy Fair . This is an event open to the trade
only, however we were invited to take a sneak peek into this year's toys and collectibles. Although over
10,000 companies attended as vendors, I am focusing on our market which includes horror, movies, sci-fi
and more... this is what I found.
NECA , a new jersey based company continues to delight their fans, with the
Predator and Aliens figure line. New species from the old Kenner properties
have been acquired and are coming out as you read this . Gamers ! here is a
cool piece hitting stores any day now, the BIOSHOCK George Washington
figure. This figure is truly amazing, from the detail to the many points of articulation.
The next company, McFarlane Toys
has been a leader in collectibles for many years, this year is no exception. The highlight of their display is always the Walking Dead
collection. The newest Blu-Ray limited edition piece features this
highly anticipated release... the Tree Zombie with the entire season
on DVD .
Funko, a company previously known for bobble heads and pop vinyl have thrown their hat in the ring with a new line of vintage figures. The Reaction line has started with Aliens and will continue
with Predator , Firefly and an entire line based on horror icons
such as Pinhead, Michael Myers, Freddy, Jason and more ..Here is
a peek at the Back To The Future line.
So there you have it folks! Unfortunately, there isn't enough time or space to report on everything that
was seen and heard, but I will say this, collectors will be very happy this year . Lego fans be on the lookout
for Rebels ,their new Star Wars based series , board gamers can take a bite of zombie-opoly , a fresh take
on an old favorite. Whovians rejoice! The U.S. market will increase with new products including ties,
posters, figures, magnets and more.
Next month a Monster Mania recap with pictures...
