TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROJECT ? WHAT WAS THE CONCEPT
BEHIND ITS DESIGN INCEPTION ?
MRUGINI : “ DESAI ’ S HOUSE " a three-bedroom apartment at Vadodara , Gujarat that uses lighting to change the ambience at will and furniture to stand in for art ..
The brief was to design 1050 sq . ft space with a plethora of functions , yet it should look simple & elegant for a young couple who loves to host parties . We started with a concept of designing each piece of furniture in a most innovative way that it won ' t appear monotonous . Sculpting furniture as an art , we chose curves & arches to make a statement , selecting a natural serene palette to overshadow heavy functions .
Lighting plays a big role to change ambience from serene to dynamic .
We have made a conscious decision to move away from the tried-and-tested calm of right angles & negotiates these without reducing concept to a mere gimmick .

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROJECT ?
MRUGINI : It ’ s hard for us to select one as every inch is designed with upmost concern but we love how daughter ' s room has turned out .
For a compact room with lots of functions , our layout creates cosy ambience with wooden ceiling & unique lighting . We ditched cliche of pink for a young teenage girl and chose metal CNC shutter , black glass wardrobe & veneer as a prime palette .
We just can ' t get over dressing unit which stands as unique as we aimed right from the beginning .
