COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICER ( CSO ) COLLABORATION WHERE REENTRY AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION MEET
Fiscal Year 2022 was perhaps the year where Reentry Services became more integrated into the DCS Supervision philosophy . Community Coordinators worked hand-in-hand with Field Operations and our Information Technology team to streamline and organize the resources available to individuals under supervision by creating a geographical directory of resource providers throughout the state and connecting this directory to our case management system . With this advancement , officers and staff are able to readily locate resources available to our population and make more seamless connections .
With the assistance of WestEd and the National Reentry Resource Center ( NRRC ) Reentry Services implemented a Strength- Based Case Management Model for our Reentry staff to incorporate into their daily interaction . The Strength Based case support model is a practice that concentrates on the inherent strengths of an individual and emphasizes selfdetermination . The model aids us in viewing those we serve as resourceful and resilient in the face of adversity . Having utilized the model for a little over a year , the Reentry Services Division has been asked and will be assisting WestEd and National Reentry Resource Center ( NRRC ) with creating a resource guide for other agencies to consider when implementing a strength-based model . We participated in a recorded session with questions regarding implementation and progress on September 24th . We are excited to give back to the field of Reentry and also look to help other entities improve on their services offerings !
With these enhancements in place , Reentry staff are viewed as force multipliers by the Community Supervision Officer ( CSO ). Staff are able to identify new resources and provide direct support for complex cases . Community Coordinators and the housing team collaborate with our CSOs throughout the state working hand in hand with officers who make referrals for employment , physical and mental health , housing , and other resources to ensure that we maximize the number of individuals who take advantage of opportunities available for supportive transitioning . The direct support provided by Reentry staff has strengthened the relationship between the two to better leverage resources that support those under supervision . Reentry staff not only provide officers with referrals , they get involved directly with the case to ensure proper service connections .
