PRISON IN-REACH SPECIALISTS
In-Reach Specialists are assigned to Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative designated facilities to provide case management services for prisoners. By developing a comprehensive transition plan for returning citizens before they leave prison, In-Reach Specialists help ensure offenders have opportunities to successfully utilize the full breadth of Georgia’ s reentry services.
REGIONAL REENTRY COUNSELORS
Like In-Reach Specialists, Regional Reentry Counselors provide case management and transition planning for returning citizens, but they do so at Georgia Department of Corrections facilities throughout the state to provide services to prisoners ineligible for staging prior to their release.
LEE STATE PRISON
Lee State Prison is piloting a unique program using evidence-based practices to promote cognitive change for prisoners. Currently, 60 % of Lee State Prison inmates are enrolled and engage in prosocial activities, such as daily journaling, reentry skill building, and community service projects.
COMMUNITY AND HOUSING COORDINATORS
A lack of stable housing is a common obstacle to successful reentry. In partnership with the Department of Community Affairs, DCS operates the Reentry Partnership Housing( RPH) program to find housing opportunities for inmates who are scheduled to be released but have no residential options. In FY 2016, RPH helped secure housing for 133 returning citizens.
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROVIDERS
DCS partners with community-based service providers to assist returning citizens in navigating barriers to successful reentry. In FY 2016, 252 partnering organizations made contact with more than 20,000 returning citizens.
FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONS
DCS is immensely grateful for the work of faith-based organizations. Their irreplaceable efforts create supportive social networks for reentering citizens and help restore families and communities who have suffered the toll of crime and incarceration.
