Some often say their home has ev erything .

23470 Mineral Lane in Hill City actually does .

The 3,400 sq . ft . log cabin was built by the owner Bill about 13 years ago . He was 66 at the time . “ It was three logs high when I met him ,” his wife Ella recalls of the home . She would come home from work in Rapid City and Bill would tell her he had laid eight logs that day . “ He set every log in this house ,” she says .

The couple lived in the finished basement space until the roof was put on the home .
“ All of that retaining wall … he set every one and they ’ re heavy . I ’ d come home and I could see ‘ oh , you got a lot done today ,’” says Ella .
Bill began the build in 2012 . He has done construction since the early 1970s and is a retired building inspector . This was his first log cabin construction and says the process wasn ’ t easy .
He says the build took six years , longer than it should have , likely due to changing log suppliers .
The logs originally came from Newell , South Dakota but there was a supply issue . When Ella sold her home in Rapid City she learned of a logging operation in Mission , South Dakota , that was being liquidated .
“ We went up there and got the last load ,” Ella says of the dead bug pine used to build the home .
Bill ’ s favorite memory , he jokes , was when he got the last log laid .
In all seriousness Bill likes everything about the house . And it really does have everything .
The 4 bedroom 3 bath home sits on a level nearly 4-acre lot .
The 3,400 sq . ft . living space sits above a 3-car heated and air conditioned garage that boasts hot water for washing dirty vehicles .
The home is heated with two heat pumps and several pellet stoves — energy efficiency for today ’ s budget conscious families .
Upon entering you come into a great room with 26-foot ceilings . Natural light pours in . Your eyes are directed to the beautiful wood and warmth of a stone fireplace , and then you begin to notice all the details .
The track lighting and tasteful pendant lights above a large kitchen island . The copper-colored ductwork and metal accents that give the space a rustic feel . The flow of the rooms which lend themselves so easily to large gatherings . As you continue to absorb the home you notice more . The kitchen ’ s island has storage space on two sides , including a special mixing cabinet with a plug .
The custom cabinets are designed for the space . Instead of a lazy susan Ella had a unique v-shaped corner cabinet built that fits perfectly .
