STEVE BEBER - TRACKIT
Steve Beber founded Trackit in 2011 to deliver data centre inventory and validation services . The founding team consisted of both technical and development skills focusing on developing both a process and application designed to deliver fast , accurate results . Now Trackit has taken customer and market insight on board to create a new cloud based asset management solution . Previously , Steve headed up a UK arm of a US based data centre consulting company whose core practice was around design , build and migration of data centre space .
What first attracted you to a career in the IT industry ? Prior to working in the IT industry I was the joint owner of a commercial removal company focusing on business moves . It was then that I started to see the volume of technical assets companies ’ purchase and how much they move around which made me eager to understand more about the back-end infrastructure . I have always been fascinated by technology and something I recognised early was how IT equipment was continuously being refreshed to keep up with emerging technology trends and how much wastage there was in this process . My first glimpse inside a data centre gave me a real buzz knowing these living , breathing rooms existed where many everyday people had no clue .
What has been your proudest career moment to date ? My proudest moment so far was walking into one of our largest data centre customers ’ sites and seeing multiple people using Trackit as part of their daily routine . We know how great the software is but seeing people using it and receiving great feedback makes me very proud of all the hard work that has gone into the constant refinement of the product by our development team .
Can you tell us about any projects you are currently working on ? We are currently working on a variety of diverse projects as we are maturing from the data centre and IT asset management space into generic asset management . We have a project with a police force which involves live tracking of their assets with a view to tracking the assets when they move and where they go . This has been an exciting project as the assets are tracked live using SMS tracking devices , which triggers alerts from the Trackit Pro platform about the movement . Outside of this we have audit projects that have spanned worldwide from Honolulu , Atlanta , Sydney to South Africa . We have a very well travelled audit team .
What parts of your job do you find the most challenging and rewarding ? The most challenging part for me is not having enough hours in the day to do everything I would like . With a growing business , it ’ s all about making decisions and driving business quickly to keep up progression . The most
