Feeding America selects Rackspace to power nationwide network of 200 food banks
Rackspace has announced that Feeding America , the largest domestic hungerrelief organisation in the US , is using Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware and Rackspace Dedicated Servers to help deliver food to more than 46 million people in need annually .
Feeding America invests 98 per cent of all donations directly into programs and services that reach people in need . As a result , before migrating to Rackspace , the organisation was in a cycle of buying and managing its own hardware every five to seven years . However , Feeding America soon realised the need to be more efficient with its IT spend and invest not only in high performing infrastructure , but also industry expertise .
This need drove the non-profit organisation to choose Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware to manage its environment . With this new solution , Feeding America has seen a 67 per cent reduction in physical assets resulting in over $ 150,000 per year savings in IT expenditures .
Rackspace VMware experts assist Feeding America with its workloads for its food distribution database , which coordinates food collections at its food banks across the country . Riverbed supports container shipping company Maersk on its digital journey
Riverbed Technology has announced that Maersk Line , the world ’ s largest container shipping operator , is using Riverbed SteelCentral to monitor business critical applications and services and provide the ability to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across the company .
‘ The digitalisation at Maersk Line has been significant ,’ said Andy Laurence , head of production services at Maersk Group Infrastructure Services .
‘ Five years ago , 20 per cent of our revenue was digital , and today it ’ s over 90 per cent . As we continue on our digital journey , having a scalable and stable digital platform infrastructure and end-to-end visibility across our digital services and into the cloud is critical .’
From customers booking and tracking container space to its own seafarers being able to smoothly transact business processes , application uptime is hugely important to Maersk Line .

SECURE IT ENVIRONMENTS DELIVERS CHALLENGING DATA CENTRE FOR THE ENERGY SYSTEMS CATAPULT
Secure IT Environments has announced the completion of a new internal data centre for the Energy Systems Catapult , at its new head office in Birmingham , UK .
The new data centre , which is housed on the seventh floor of a central Birmingham office , was built on time in just eight weeks . Key construction challenges included ensuring power supply cabling was adequate and could reach distribution boards , the close control air conditioning system condensers required extended pipework to enable the units to be housed on the roof .
The data centre has been built with raised flooring , cold aisle containment air conditioning , with great attention placed on ensuring space was utilised as efficiently as possible given restrictions of the physical building . Secure IT Environments was responsible for the design and delivery of the data centre which included power supply infrastructure , environmental controls , server racks and UPS .
With an emphasis on energy systems and efficiency central to the mission of the Energy Systems Catapult , delivering a data centre that reflected these qualities was essential .
