Data breaches are quite literally happening every day , not to mention the damage caused by human error . A recent study has revealed that it costs UK organisations on average £ 1m to recover from a cyber-attack . Which begs the question why aren ’ t we doing more to protect ourselves ? Are we so caught up in the trend that we are forgetting the basics ?

centre , the life force of it all , resides in a physical location . All this fancy cyber stuff would be nothing without the humble data centre , which is why this issue focuses on one of the most important aspects of maintaining one : Cooling .
Cooling is often overlooked , but it accounts for 40 per cent of the power used in an entire data centre facility , which let ’ s admit , is a pretty big piece of the pie . Our data production is snowballing at an astronomical rate , and although the changes required to keep pace can be overwhelming , if the physical data centre is maintained efficiently and organisations build upon good foundations , there will be a lot less to worry about .
