espite its politically
contentious nature, the
Investigatory Powers
Act (IP Act) is now a fact
of life for organisations
across the UK. The new regulation
has been branded the ‘Snooper’s
Charter’, and was passed in the
face of strong opposition from civil
rights groups and a crowd funded
legal campaign. This opposition to
the IP Act stems from accusations
of compromise to UK citizens’
personal privacy; the new law
grants intelligence agencies an
increased ability to access and
monitor bulk sets of personal data.
Regardless of the controversy
that surrounds it, adherence to the
IP Act is now a legal requirement
