Steven Davies , BC , 11m , Documentary After working as a clearcut logger in what is now known as the Clayoquot Sound , master carver and land defender Joe Martin reconciles his past by revitalizing the ancestral knowledge and artistic practice of the traditional Tla-o-qui-aht dugout canoe .
PENELAKUT ~ RETURNING TO THE HEALING CIRCLE
Peter Campbell , BC , 28m , Documentary Twenty-five years after the groundbreaking documentary , “ Kuper Island ~ Return to the Healing Circle ” was released , the filmmakers were invited to return to the Island to document an important community event . Built in 1890 , the Kuper Island Residential School operated a mere fifty kilometers west of Vancouver . Many children drowned trying to escape . At the end of the 1996 film , the Cornerstone of the Residential School is ceremoniously hurled into the Ocean . And that is how “ Penelakut ~ Returning to the Healing Circle ” begins ... Content Warning : this film deals with residential school issues .
