WORK SHOP ( AT SOVA 3RD AND QUEEN ) PHOTOCOPY ROTOSCOPY ! Experimental animation technique using live footage and traditional art media .

Rotoscope is a technique where one paints or draws over top of live action footage . One famous example is Aha ’ s 1985 music video for Take on Me . There are many different ways a person can rotoscope , often using digital drawing tools , film projectors and light boxes . In our workshop we will be exploring a less common , low tech , DIY , experimental approach , printing out successive film frames , and making marks directly onto those printouts . We will be drawing , painting , gluing , sanding , tearing , crumpling … and any other ways we can think of to alter those images . The process is fun and is also an easy way to learn the basic principles of animation . This workshop will be perfect for experienced animators and novices alike . Absolutely no animation or art experience necessary . Ideal for adults and children over 12 . ( Note , for children under 16 we ask that an adult accompany them )
