GENERAL INFORMATION
HILTI DRAINED BACKED AND VENTILATED RAINSCREEN FACADE SOLUTION OVERVIEW
ENGINEERED SOLUTION
Hilti provides engineering service for the drained and back ventilated rainscreen facades that are compliant to IBC 2018 . The system is mechanically connected to the loadbearing structure of the building and remains structurally stable .
Our system complies with the applicable national building and fire requirements
NFPA 285
NFPA 285 . Standard Fire Test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components , provides a test method for determining the fire propagation characteristics of exterior wall assemblies and panels used as components of curtain wall assemblies that are constructed using combustible materials or that incorporate combustible components . Based on this standard our system tested for the worst-case scenario utilizing several manufactures over multiple surfaces .
Our bracket / subframing structure have passed these tests and are approved per NFPA 285 :
• Regular aluminum L-brackets made of aluminum 6063 T66 with polypropolene thermo pad
• Slab-to-slab aluminum brackets made of aluminum 6063 T66 with polypropolene thermo pad
• Thermal-bridge-free bracket ( Fox-T ) made of aluminum 6063 T66 and glassfiber reinforced polyamide
• Stainless steel L-brackets ( VTR ) made of 316 Stainless Steel
ASHRAE 90.1 - CONTINUOUS INSULATION ( CI )
American Society of Heating , Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers standard defines continuous insulation ( CI ) as “ insulation that is continuous across all structural members without thermal bridges other than fasteners and service openings . It is installed on the interior or exterior or is integral to any opaque surface of the building envelope .”
This definition by itself does not describe specific R-value requirements though . As globally the largest manufacturer of rainscreen facade sub framing systems , Hilti has modeled all its different brackets for the most common insulation thicknesses , insulation types and wall built-ups . Those values are all integrated in our PROFIS Facade software that is used to provide our customers the most accurate and economical structural and thermal calculations .

APPROVALS
Many Hilti products have approvals such as International Code Council Evaluation Services Reports ( ICC-ES ESR ' s ) or International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials Report ( IAPMO-UES ER ' s ). Approvals are provided by independent third parties who evaluate products based on model building codes or various jurisdictional requirements . Product approvals indicate that a product has been tested and evaluated based on a specific acceptance or test criteria . Not all technical data contained in this document is based on a published approval . Hilti may publish additional data beyond that contained in a report , i . e . for applications outside the scope of an available test criteria . Acceptance of the product listings or approvals is subject to the authority having jurisdiction over the project . It is important to review the approval or listing to determine if the application or conditions expected for the project are included in the scope of the approval or listing .
