Fishing in New Smyrna Beach Capt. Brian Clancy / Eldora Charters Angling opportunities abound in the New Smyrna Beach area. Cast a line from one of our bridges or public piers, surf fish from our beaches, charter a boat to go offshore or hire a guide to fish the world renowned redfish waters in the Mosquito Lagoon. The river and inlet offer many varieties of fish including redfish, spotted seatrout, sheephead, black drum, spanish mackerel, bluefish, pompano, and whiting. On the beach, casting into the surf will get you bluefish, whiting and pompano. Bridges, public piers, the beaches and inlet can provide a day of fishing at minimal expense. The bait and tackle shops can also give you up-to-date information on what’s biting and what you’ll need for bait. For offshore fishing, a sport fishing boat can be chartered for the day. These captains can put you in the fighting chair with cobia, marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dolphin, or king mackerel, screaming line off of the real. The area is also known for its good bottom fishing with grouper, red snapper and amberjack, found in good numbers on the offshore reefs. The Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River is known for its world-class redfish and spotted seatrout fishing. These calm waters that stretch from New Smyrna Beach to Cape Canaveral offer some of the best redfishing in the United States. Fishing in gin-clear water on the pristine grass flats in one foot of water, anglers can actually see their quarry before casting. Expert and novice anglers alike find fishing in the natural surroundings of the Canaveral National Seashore a memorable experience.
