PLA FAQ

Phalen is excited to serve the children and families of Montgomery. We understand that inside of this wonderful opportunity, you may have questions about what this means for your scholar(s). While we will certainly have more in-depth connections, to start, here is a list of commonly asked questions:

Will my student need to apply and join a waiting list to attend?

Will my scholars have new teachers?

What is the purpose of this charter conversion?

What is a Charter School?

Absolutely not. If you are a current Davis Elementary school family your scholar's seat is already reserved. PLA Davis is a local neighborhood school specifically designed to support the local community.  Our school is tuition-free and open to the families of Montgomery. We look forward to welcoming you.

A charter school is a publicly funded, but independently operated, school. By law, they are open to all children and tuition-free.

Our goal is to partner with Davis Elementary to transform the educational experience of our scholars, our families and our community. We will work with the staff at Davis to provide the resources and support needed to help raise student achievement. We want to help make your school one of the strongest in the region.

Possibly. Teachers now at Davis have the option to stay at Davis or transfer to another MPS school. We are hoping to retain Davis' best teachers and also bring more passionate educators to support our mission and our families. We will host a meet and greet for staff, families and the community prior to the start of next school year.

No. Transportation, food service and building custodians remain the same through MPS.

Information is always available to families on the web at PLADavis.org. Families can also contact the school principal at eanderson@phalenacademies.org.
