Daughters of Promise September/October 2015 | Page 7
FROM THE FOUNDER
It is with joy and wonder that we release
this issue - the 33rd in Daughters of Promise
history! It is an especially monumental unveiling
for me as it marks the 5-year mark since Daughters
of Promise began. What an unexpected and sweet
journey it has been! In October, 2010 God laid on
my heart to start a monthly newsletter for young
women. At the time, I never dreamed that DOP
would take on a magazine format and eventually
be printed. Getting to where we are today has
been a long journey made of many little steps,
and I am so amazed at how the Lord took a simple
dream and turned it into something far bigger than I ever imagined it could be.
Alot of people have never heard the story of how Daughters of Promise came to be,
so, in honor of our five-year anniversary, I am sharing the tale of its beginnings.
You will find the DOP history on the next several pages, interwoven with an
honest look at pain and its purpose in our lives. My heart is that you will take
away more than just a new knowledge of how DOP started. I hope you find fresh
courage to dream and to surrender your pain into Jesus’ hands.
This issue was crafted as what I like to call a “free-for-all of good stuff ”. That is,
we did not shape it around any particular theme words. For that reason you will
find a diverse range of topics covered; something to impact a lot of little spaces
in your soul. Don’t miss the Part II’s in this issue as we wrap up a discussion
on three important topics started in the July/August issue: cultivating effective
conversation, overcoming inferiority, and building stronger sibling relationships.
And be sure to read slow and ponder long over Anita Yoder’s article on true
beauty; Meredith Cannone’s perspective on finding rest in nature; and Marilyn
Esh’s challenge to embrace God’s Wor
