Helen Keller said, “Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” Something inside each of us resonates with this statement. We long for lives well lived; lives marked by courage and faith. Truly, God fashioned us as women to thrive in the exploration and discovery of the world in which He placed us. “Living adventurously” doesn’t always mean doing something extraordinary. It only requires a willingness to step out of one’s comfort zone and into the next right thing. It means embracing new disciplines, exploring deeper relationships, trying new things. Something in our hearts comes to life when we live this way. We become participants in the grand story of life, acquainting ourselves with aspects of nature and God and people that we would entirely miss if we stayed safely in the wings. In this issue, we visit a few of the ways women explore, discover, and thrive. From adventuring in the great outdoors, to experiencing painful and unexpected life seasons, to planning for your next roadtrip, the content of this issue is meant to serve as a tool to inspire us to actively engage in life. We are holistic beings, comprised of spirit, senses, thoughts, and emotions, and here at DOP, we believe that thriving in this life means giving due attention to all parts of who we are, as our Magnificent Creator intended.
