by Dayna Miller ADORATION A KEY TO HIS HEART So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them… Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. To You belongs silence (the submissive wonder of reverence which bursts forth into praise) and praise is due and fitting to You. O God, in Zion; and to You shall the vow be performed. You are to feel for him (your husband) all that reverence includes: to respect, defer to, revere him; to honor, esteem, appreciate, prize, and in the human sense, to adore him, that is to admire, to praise, to be devoted to, deeply love, and enjoy your husband. WHEN I READ THESE VERSES to my fiancé and his brothers they had a hard time following my train of thought. It led to a long and somewhat convoluted 34 discussion that made me grateful that I am writing this for women and not for men! I hope that you ladies can understand what God has laid on my heart better than they were able to! We as humans, men and women alike, are created in the image of our Lord and Savior. We carry within us a seed of His Person and personality. It is interesting to see how that plays out differently in the genders. While I would love to explore and explain that, I think it would take a whole other article to do that! In a nutshell I think that the commands in Scripture for men to love their wives and wives to reverence their husbands well sum up the needs that each side has. Men need to be adored and respected. Women need to be cherished and loved. This is not because we as humans are weak, or insecure, not because any of us are less than we should be, but rather, it is because we reflect the deep desires of our Father’s heart! The verses I quoted at the beginning of this article were intended to give you a glimpse of three facts. 1) We are all made in the image of God. 2) God desires and deserves the unfailing adoration of His children. 3) God has commanded that we as women adore the men He has placed in our lives as our leaders and friends. Because men are made in God’s image and the desire of their hearts naturally mirror His, they long to be respected and adored. Because God created them to have that need in their lives, it is a PRIVELEGE to fill that need, not a drudgery. Because Satan hates all things that God created to be beautiful, we often find this command to be a drudgery rather than a privilege. Doesn’t it seem backward to you? I know it does to me. It should be that every day is tinted rosy pink and every evening is a romantic dinner… Right? But that’s not how life works. The truth is that it drives us crazy when he forgets to shovel the snow or when he looses important receipts or when he takes time off of work to do things he loves doing even when money is tight. In the moment of irritation it is so very much easier to see him as an utterly frustrating human than as a man created in the image of God who needs to be adored and believed in
