January is Glaucoma Awareness Month
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve and can result in
vision loss and blindness. It is called the “sneak thief of sight” since there are no
pain or symptoms until vision begins to be lost. As much as 40% of vision can be
lost without a person noticing. Glaucoma can occur in one or both eyes and anyone
can develop it at any time. Once diagnosed, treatments with medicine or surgery
will save remaining vision, however vision that has already been lost can not be
restored. The best form of prevention for Glaucoma and other eye diseases is routine
comprehensive eye exams. If you notice any vision loss, see an eye doctor immediately.

On average, someone dies of cardiovascular disease every 40 seconds.
That is about 2,200 deaths each day.
On average, someone in the US has a stroke every 40 seconds. This is
about 795,000 new or recurrent strokes each year.
Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year,
killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.
Up to 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with
education and action. Take control of your health by knowing your ive
numbers: Total Cholesterol, HDL (good) Cholesterol, Blood Pressure,
Blood Sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI). Knowing these numbers can help you and your healthcare provider
determine your risk for developing cardiovascular diseases.
March is National Nutrition Month
