Thank You Volunteers
Officially, National Volunteer
Appreciation Week is
April 7–13, 2019. Here at
Gladstone, we are blessed
to have so many volunteers
that it take us the entire
month to recognize them.
Volunteers are crucial to the daily life of the Gladstone
55+ Center. The Meals on Wheels program could not
exist without the volunteer drivers and packers. A
volunteer helps get the Panera bakery items bagged,
and many instructors volunteer to teach classes. If you
are looking to volunteer at Gladstone in any capacity,
please stop by or call the office. A volunteer application
and background check are required for all volunteers.
Thank you, thank you, thank you–we can’t say it enough.
You make a difference every moment your!
Frost Avenue Road Construction
After a winter of record snow and cold, it is
officially spring, otherwise known as pothole
season, and road construction season is just itching
to begin. This year Frost Avenue is scheduled not
only for a new surface, but also a redesign and new
storm sewers. The roadwork is expected to begin
early this spring and continue into the early fall.
Gladstone will remain open during construction
but there will be no access to Manton Street from
Frost Avenue. You will access Gladstone from the
north, off of County Road B (see map below). While
road construction means detours and dust, it sure
will be nice to have the improved traffic flow and a
smooth, pot hole free road when it is completed.
Golden Prom 2019
You have been waiting, and here it is– Golden Prom
information! The prom will be held at a new location,
Guardian Angels Church - Peter O’Neil Event Hall
in Oakdale. In the past, many high school students
were unable to participate because of sport and job
commitments after school. This year the prom will be
held from 11:30 am–2 pm. The Golden Tones will once
again provide dining and dancing music. A catered
luncheon from Donatelli’s, a photo booth, bingo and
door prizes will round out your 2019 Golden Prom
experience, all for $10 per person (tickets are required
for admission). Don’t forget your food shelf donation.
See page 12 for information on how to purchase your
tickets.
On May 14, 2019, School District 622 residents will be able to vote
whether to fund school improvements across the district.
These improvements would provide safe, up-to-date, and healthy
learning environments for all students — and include updates to
buildings used by Community Education programs.
Research shows that public school quality
is one of the most important factors affecting home value.
