“Strategy is going to be very different next year to how
we’ve been doing it up until now. And the types of data
and how that data is presented to the engineers is
going to be very different next season,” explains Graeme
Hackland, Lotus F1 Team’s CIO. “So instead of waiting
until the end of the season as we would usually do, and
in the three months of the off season when we would do
the strategy changes, we’re actually doing it a whole year
ahead of time.”
“2014 will push back the boundaries,” says Patrick Louis,
Lotus F1 Team CEO. “Our world is changing so quickly
that we must react extremely fast. 2014 will bring more
weight on the shoulders of Avanade since the cars are
changing that much. There is a huge change in the
power train compared to this year, and the way you
have to operate it. The two main issues of operating
an F1 car on the racetrack are thermal topics and fuel
consumption topics. The in race, strategy will change
completely, it will become more important than it is
already today. That is the next huge challenge between
us and Avanade to re-write, to redefine the strategy
systems for 2014.”

AVANADE SOLUTION
Critical to faster decision-making is streamlining, and
this is where Avanade comes in; helping to process big
data and create an integrated flow of information that
the team’s decision makers – designers, engineers,
strategists - can act upon, together in one view.
The key is breaking down boundaries between systems
to trigger greater productivity and faster decision-making
in a business where every second counts. A critical
component of this is providing an integrated view of data
being collected across the organization.
That will prove hugely important come January and
February next year as the trackside team refines its
2014 car, honing the car’s dynamic characteristics and
minimize the reliability issues that can stymie an all-new
chassis and powertrain. As a strategic partner to Lotus
F1 Team, Avanade plays a crucial role in enabling the
team to use its limited track time wisely, and comply with
next season’s regulation changes to gain a competitive
advantage. By making the best use of their technical
arsenal and addressing the business challenges of
Grand Prix racing, Avanade and Lotus F1 Team will
realize results together.
“Avanade has re-written our trackside development tools
and integrated them in a much more accessible package,
which is easier to use, compare data and make faster
and more informed decisions based upon that,” explains
Lotus F1 Team’s Trackside Operations Director, Alan
Permane. “So the pit wall has become ????????????????)???????????????????????????e??????????????)??????????????????????????????????????????)???????????????????%?e????????????????????)?????????????????????????????????????t(+
