Alcohol is a drug that slows down the central nervous system. It is known as a depressant, and it slows down your heart and breathing rate. The effects of alcohol are determined by gender, age, weight, mood, physical health, strength of drink, and others. A standard alcoholic drink is a 12 oz. beer, a 5 oz. glass of wine, and 1.5 oz. of 80-proof distilled spirits. The proof is the amount of alcohol in a drink. Most of the time though, people drink more then these normal amounts.

Many people drink alcohol. It is found almost anywhere, from major retailers, to small liquor stores, to almost any type of party you go to. There are some negative health effects that go along with drinking all of this alcohol. Lets first learn what alcohol is.
