Cake walks are a popular aspect of
Friday’s festivities. Entry fee is $1
and participants walk around a circle
of numbers. When the music stops,
a number is drawn and the person
standing on the winning number
receives a home-made cake.

“It’s kind of old-fashioned, but it really
fills up the dance floor,” Buckner says.
Saturday’s activities also include a
youth dance competition and luthier
displays.
Youth and adult competitions fill
the day Saturday, along with the
workshops. This year’s workshops
will b e led by the following experts:
Steve Kilby of Independence, Va.
(guitar workshop); Debbie Gitlin of
Winston-Salem (fiddle workshop);
Mac Traynham of Floyd, Va. (banjo
workshop); and Samantha Wilhelmi
of Mount Airy (traditional dance
workshop).
Admission charge $5 daily, with children 12
and under admitted at no charge. Saturday’s
contestants also get in free.
Hours are 7-11pm. Friday, and 11am. – 11pm.
