Saint Paul
Mountain
Vineyards
S
aint Paul Mountain Vineyards is a family
owned and operated vineyard and winery
located in Hendersonville, N.C. This particular
piece of property has been in Alan Ward’s
family since the 1800’s. Our goal is to create an
environment of sustainability where the family
can continue to participate in farming. We have
carefully selected our growing locations and with
a lot of work, investment, trial and error ,and
some good luck. We are able to grow some exceptional grapes that have
high Brix (a measure of sugar level) and tannins and acidity to produce
top-quality red and white wines. The elevation of the 5 acres of grapes at
the Chestnut Gap location are grown at 2300 feet while another 10 acres
is grown at 3000 feet at Point Lookout in Edneyville. The elevation, lower
humidity and early morning drying of the grapes on the mountain slopes
make for a better growing season.
The winery and tasting room opened on August 5, 2012 with 6 wines
consisting of 2 Chardonnays, 2 Riesling blends and 2 Cabernets each with
a dryer and sweeter version. In 2012, our production was more than 2000
cases. In 2013, we are working to release 5 new wines totaling approximately another 2000 cases. We grow 14 varieties of grapes of which 95%
are French vinifera and variations of German and Austrian stock.
We want people to come here, experience it and learn about the farming
and wine making process. We are dog friendly and have picnic areas if
you would like to bring a picnic to enjoy with your wine. We also feature
locally made food products including Vineyards Edge Dairy goat cheeses,
Tito’s Specialty Foods hummus, and Roots and Branches artisan crackers
for purchase. Throughout the Summer we will also feature live music most
weekends.
Bring your family to visit ours!
