Greensboro and Winston-Salem
on the North Carolina map.
These two beer destinations lie
just north of the state’s bull’seye with a choice of interstate
highways to take you there.
Greensboro is full of opportunities to sample North Carolina
beer, and NC Beer Month creates
an opportunity to showcase
its suds savvy. “Hops Around
Greensboro” includes a Beer
Lover’s Weekend April 26-27,
with a stay at the O. Henr y
Hotel, a beer dinner at Lucky
32 Souther n Kitchen, and a
cooking with beer class featuring Red Oak Brewery and Green
Valley Grill. Specials at Mellow
Mushroom, The Pour House and
other venues are also on tap.

destination brewpub downtown,
honors Revolutionary War Gen.
Nathanael Greene, who taught
British commander Cornwallis
what it means to win the battle but
lose the war. Two blocks away, the
International Civil Rights Center
& Museum commemorates a
landmark moment on the site of
the 1960 Woolworth sit-ins that
propelled a movement across
America.

Try a range of regional craft beer at
Sticks & Stones, where the menu
choices are named for songs by
North Carolina native Ryan Adams,
and at Darryl’s Wood Fired Grill,
whose owner is behind the soonto-open Pig Pounder Brewery.
A short drive away, WinstonSalem is home to Foothills
Brewing, best-known for its
stand-in-line winter release of
Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout.
Though that particular brew is
over until next year, others put
Foothills on the must-do list, and
smart planners can sign up for
a beer class. From the brewery,
you can hop a shuttle to BB&T
Ballpark and watch The Dash
while sipping the hometown brew.
At Krankies Coffee, the core brewing
business is beans, but you’ll also find
craft beer, music and a cultural hub.
And at the gateway to Old Salem,
Carolina Vineyards & Hops serves
North Carolina craft beers exclusively.
