If you’ve ever been on the Parkway I’m sure you’ve seen that big red orchard building down the side of the mountain, I know I have and just kept on driving. Now that I’ve taken the time to stop in and see what Altapass Orchard is about, and what goes on inside it will be hard to ever just drive by again. It’s not just a working orchard, The Historic Orchard at Altapass is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Appalachian Heritage. Located on a hundred year old apple orchard on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Over the Mountain Trail, Altapass Orchard features mountain music, historical plays, storytelling hayrides, craft demonstrations, butter- 16 fly and herb & wetlands gardens, monarch raising, amazing views and old apple trees May-Oct. If you are on a bike I hope you have some big saddlebags, you’ll find so many mountain treats your bags will be rattling all the way home. The same applies to your trunk or back seat. 1025 Orchard Road Milepost 328.3 On the Blue Ridge Parkway 828•765-9531 www.altapassorchard.com Dashboards and Saddlebags The Destination Magazine W g e P J C D s t w a t c i L T m w a s w l N i t t h c D
