For me , I fundamentally need those intense sensations predicated as pain – and that ’ s something that anyone with a certain amount of strength , skill , and interest can give me without intimacy . What ’ s far less common , however , is finding someone interested and able to use pain as a medium of psychological exploration and growth . I don ’ t want to predicate someone who shares my interest in using pain as a tool for psychological and spiritual growth as a “ good sadist ”, however , because one of the many freedoms of kink is freedom from that sort of normativity .
Smitty : Both words , “ sadist ” and “ masochist ,” have come to imply some sort of sexual partnership ; but that altered state which you describe is not necessarily sexual . Or is it ?
Ruchami : I don ’ t think anything is necessary aside from consent . Sometimes people invest the way things commonly occur with a false sense of necessity-- e . g . conflating masochism with submission and sadism with dominance-- but sadomasochism isn ’ t necessarily or inherently sexual . And I don ’ t think there ’ s anything necessarily or inherently sexual in using bodily pain to induce disembodied , altered consciousness .
Smitty : Does suffering lead to orgasm for you ?
Ruchami : Yes , so much more powerfully than my cunt simply convulsing or squirting .
Smitty : Perhaps this needs some sort of clarification . You described yourself as queer . So you are not necessarily sexually attracted to Brutal Master . Is it rather that he is proficient at giving you the experience you desire , degrading you , binding you , and hurting you ?
Ruchami : I prefer the label queer to bisexual or pansexual because it denotes a politicized collective identity involving nonnormative sexual and gender expression , along with a liberatory and intersectional anti-capitalist , anti-authoritarian consciousness .
