2018: Thanks to a generous donation by Julius W. Hegeler, II Foundation, a new fixed-digit scoreboard and videoboard was installed. The videoboard – built by Watchfire here in Danville – is 8’ tall x 36’ wide, with the capability to display photos and movie clips.
July 20, 2019: The original Danville Dodgers uniform worn by batboy John Dowling was presented to the Dans by his children following John and his wife’ s death the previous year.
2021: The 75th anniversary of Danville Stadium was celebrated with different events. On June 20, Jackie Robinson Anniversary Day marked 74 years since the ballplayer that broke the color barrier came to Danville Stadium with his Brooklyn teammates to play an exhibition game. The city of Danville named Highland Boulevard in front of the Stadium as honorary Jackie Robinson Way. A 75th Anniversary celebration was held on Saturday, July 24.
2023: The baseball sign that used to sit on top of the scoreboard was mounted over the main entrance to the Stadium, complete with working lights around its circumference. But the lights don’ t chase like they used to when the home team hit a home run. The city of Danville also installed new LED field lights.
2025: The city of Danville, which owns the Stadium, completed the addition of two new handicap restrooms, a new party room, and refurbished the restrooms and locker rooms.
More than 200 players who walked on the grass of Danville Stadium have played in the Major Leagues... names like Carl Erskine, Cecil Cooper, Pedro Guerrero and Mike Quade were part of teams rostered here. Local stars Darrin Fletcher and Jason Anderson also wore MLB uniforms. And the current Dans have had 35 players make it to the majors, like Jonathon Papelbon, Chris Coglin, Mitch Moreland, and now Josh Smith and Hayden Birdsong.
Danville Stadium is one of the few remaining stadiums of its era. Thanks to the foresight of“ Kish” Bookwalter and other city leaders in their day, it has become a fixture in the hearts of area residents and on the baseball landscape itself.
