The Danville Dans have one of the richest histories in summer collegiate baseball. Here’ s are some highlights of the last 36 years.
1988
Current team starts play in the Central Illinois Collegiate League. Actually went by the nickname Highlanders the first year.
Jerome Edwards sets the team and CICL record for most stolen bases in a game, with six.
Jeff Richards sets a CICL record for most relief appearances with 33 – and they were in consecutive games.
1989 Team changes name to Dans, in tribute to a former team that played in the 1950s. Dans win their first CICL Tournament Championship. They are also the tournament champs in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999-2001 & 2003.
1993
Chris Michalak, Shane Bowers and Kevin Sefcik become first Dans players drafted that will go on to play in the Majors.
1995
Kevin Sefcik is the first Danville Dan to get called up to the majors, debuting for the Phillies.
1996 Brian Wiese( Mississippi State) throws the
Dans’ first no-hitter.
1997
Kurt Ainsworth( LSU) tosses a 7-inning nohitter against Quincy Gems, the second Dans no-hitter.
Travis Chapman sets a still-standing league record of hitting. 451 for the season.
2003 The Dans pitching staff sets a CICL record for the lowest team ERA, at 1.79.
2004
Ty Davis( Vanderbilt) and Nick DeCampli( San Francisco State) combine to throw the Dans’ third no hitter, a 2-1 loss to Springfield in game two.
2005 The Dans 34 wins is a regular season best.
2008 Dan Kaczrowski produces 79 hits, a season record in the CICL.
2009 Central Illinois Collegiate League becomes the Prospect League, with 11 teams.
2010
The Dans win 32 games, record two playoff wins before falling in the championship game to Chillicothe 7-6 in 11 innings.
2013 From July 1-12, the Dans win 11 straight games, a Prospect League record.
Dans win regular season championship and set a league record with 41 wins.
2014
CJ Burdick( University of San Diego) tosses the Dans 4th no-hitter against Springfield Sliders.
Ronnie Jebavy( Middle Tennessee State) breaks the team record with seven stolen bases in one game at Champion City.
2015 Dans set a Prospect League record with 136 stolen bases for the season.
2017 Coach Eric Coleman records his 100 th regular season victory in his fourth season.
The Dans break their own stolen base record by swiping 163 bases,
Dans pitchers set another league record by striking out 575 batters in 2017.
2018
Steven Washilewski( Kansas) and Will Klein( Eastern Illinois) combine throw the Dans 5 th no-hitter at Hannibal in an 8-0 win. The Dans again set a new stolen base record at 164. Zach Huffins( Arizona Western) sets a Prospect League record with 44 stolen bases.
