The pieces for this portfolio are arranged through an escalation of pieces that reflect my growing introspection and reflection about my life and me as a person. The first piece shows an example of the goals of a writer I was trying to accomplish. Moving on to a piece about my political views in the context I life on. Progressively, the pieces turn far more personal and in relation to contemplation I have experiences this last year. Finally, ending with what my last few quarters being in this class and how these helped me reflect with my everyday school life. I wanted end, though, with a more hopeful piece and with the type of person I’d like to leave this class as.

Delirium (Q4) Prose pg. 6
This piece began as my goals piece as the start of the fourth quarter. The goals was to make a three part story in different perspective which all related. Although this is my incomplete piece of the portfolio, the changes I made based on my peer’s feedback was developing more on simple details in the narrative from the character’s backgrounds that would give a more full view of the lives presented. For example, why did in the second part Jacob develop pneumonia, or if in the first part Jacob got in trouble at all. I believe this piece could be attributed with a strong character presence as well as very vivid descriptions. Nonetheless, regardless if the third part was never written for the story, I never felt able to connect entirely with this piece. I always felt it lacked something way beyond a third perspective to it. “The weather outside was incredibly warm and humid, as Jacob felt his T-shirt stick to his sweaty back and his hair to his dripping forehead,” is an example of the strong vocabulary used for the descriptions. An area of weakness, though, that could be improved would be to give more depth to the piece. I feel like there is no ‘denouement’ and so far am unable to summon one the pairs with the visuals of the piece.
Political Circus (Q1) Poem pg. 7
This piece was inspired on the field trip the Juniors had to Downtown “el Centro” of Guadalajara. In the trip we was a lot of political-critique paintings from José Clemente Orozco. One part of a piece in particular caught my attention: it was all these clowns trampling over each other and they all carried political or religious signs. I think this piece is particularly strong due to the image I set. “Grotesque faces of hanging skin/And bulging grins/With bucking teeth/That are about to fall.” This is one of my favorite lines because I can see imagine these clowns. I understand maybe the poem wouldn’t make sense if it didn’t come with the image, so maybe if I further revised it, I would try to give the clowns more meaning. I decided to bring back this piece, since I’m still very proud of the imagery I used to describe a broader issue both through history and the world.
