En efecto, había un guión para la película. Cada cosa fue planeada precisa y obsesivamente. Eso, por supuesto, hasta que llegas al set. Ahí, las cosas a menudo no pasan exactamente esperas y necesita fluir con lo que realmente sucede. Esto a veces crea un nuevo tipo de magia que no estaba prevista…
Para la historia, me inspiré en el mercado Mahane Yehuda en sí. Grabé horas de gente ajetreada. Para conseguir inspirarme sobre el lugar, fui allí muchas veces con mi cámara, aunque ocasionalmente sólo observando. El resultado fue una especie de diccionario o enciclopedia visual de movimientos, reflejando la interacción y comunicación humana. Mientras grababa, estaba anonadada con la belleza del movimiento de la gente cuando estaban solos. Esto me inspiró para la historia y los personajes. Así que supongo que puedes decir que no me inspiré en nadie específicamente, sino por todos, incluyendo la misma localización.
Did you do a script for this film? How did you plan it? How did you build your main and secondary characters? (I really like the man!) Were you inspired in someone?
There was indeed a script for the film. Everything was obsessively planned and precise. That of course, until you reach the set. There, things often do not happen exactly as you expected and you need to flow with what actually happens. This sometimes creates a new kind of magic that was not intended..
For the story, I was inspired by the Mahane Yehuda market itself.
I shot hours of people rushing around. To get inspired by the place, I went back there many times with my camera, though occasionally just observing. The result was sort of a visual dictionary/encyclopedia of moves, reflecting human interaction and communication. As I was shooting, I was dumbfounded by the beauty of people's movement when they're by themselves. This gave me the inspiration for the story and characters. So I guess you can say I wasn’t inspired by someone specific, but by everyone, including the location itself.
