needed, but Dr. Coimbra knew what he was doing, so I wasn’t nervous. I just wanted to get that tumor out, and so did he. We both relaxed a lot more after it was gone. I’d recommend him 100%.” After she’s done re-reading the Harry Potter series, that is. A Future so Bright Brittney Morgan’s Story “It was her dream to have surgery.” Brain surgery can be daunting. It might be even scarier when it’s your daughter being wheeled into the operating room. “Brittney inspired me. She was so strong. But we had faith, and we trusted Dr. Beshay, ” says Phyllis Morgan, who lives in Rowlett, Texas, with her husband Don and their family. Active, fit, and healthy, her vivacious daughter, Brittney, now 22, is one-half of a set of fraternal twin girls and little sister to a brother coping with his own disabilities. “I learn so much from her; she’s so confident, and she loves to help people, because she’s been through so much herself,” says Morgan. After years of struggling with epilepsy, Morgan says Brittney suffered especially during the middle school years. The unpredictable seizures, and the medication she took to control them, took their toll. Brittney coped with learning, speech, and memory disabilities, and eventually the family decided home school was a better fit. She attended high school online, but Brittney wanted to drive and date and go to college like her sister. “Before surgery I was just angry all the time. I just wanted to be normal,” she says.
