A FRESH
APPROACH
P
etite, perky, blonde, Reese Witherspoon’s all-American beauty and
sweet demeanor helped land her roles in movies such as Legally
Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama, but don’t let appearances fool
you, she’s one tough Southern belle.
“Don’t mess with a Southern woman,” Witherspoon has said. And, you
better believe she means it. The Academy Award-winning actress, pro-
ducer, and entrepreneur’s angelic face belies an intense ambition. It’s
one that she’s no longer afraid to embrace. Taking her 40s in tremen-
dous stride, Witherspoon is no longer bound by the expectations of
others.
Witherspoon has found her voice and she hopes other women can fol-
low her lead. “The female leaders within every industry have to stand
up for those who are voiceless and silent, and we have to do better to
create more balanced cultures with female leadership and leadership
with people of color. It’s just profoundly overdue,” according to Wither-
spoon. Check out this issue’s celebrity profile on this petite powerhouse
to learn how Witherspoon is helping change the balance of power in
Hollywood––and beyond––by empowering women both in front of and
behind the screen.
As we head into the holiday season, another important thing to keep an
eye on is your health. While the darker, shorter days of fall can make
it hard to maintain an active mindset, it’s time to take advantage of the
winds of change when the seasons switch and commit to smart habits
for a healthy 2019. Inside, find some solid tips to get you on a healthy
path.
We’re not done yet. Turn the pages of this issue and you’ll also find
more tips on how to enjoy a healthier life. Thank you to the community
professionals for sharing their expertise with you, our readers.
Sincerely,
Sam and Spring Houston
