Q: TELL US ABOUT THE LUNG INSTITUTE.
A: The Lung Institute offers stem cell therapy, a research study, for patients suffering from pulmonary conditions such as COPD, emphysema or pulmonary
fibrosis. With clinics in Tampa, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Scottsdale and Dallas,
we’ve helped over 2,500 people since the first clinic opened in Tampa 3
years ago. J

K
nowing what to ask medical
professionals can be challenging,
but a solid understanding helps people
make informed decisions. The Lung
Institute’s Dallas Medical Director
Sreedevi Marakatham, MD, addresses
some of these questions for those
seeking options for lung disease.
Q: WHAT KIND OF TREATMENT DO YOU OFFER FOR THESE CONDITIONS?
A: We offer investigative stem cell therapy, which uses the body’s cells to promote the healing of lung tissue. The procedure is minimally invasive and outpatient. We extract stem cells from a patient’s own blood or bone marrow,
isolating the cells in our on-site lab and returning the cells intravenously. J
Q: WHAT MAKES INVESTIGATIVE STEM CELL THERAPY DIFFERENT?
A: Most options for these conditions focus on symptoms but don’t address lung
tissue degeneration. Investigative stem cell therapy aims to confront the disease itself, not just the symptoms. J
Q: HOW ARE PATIENTS FEELING AFTER INVESTIGATIVE STEM CELL TREATMENT?
A: Because the stem cells are from the patient’s body, the risk of rejection
is virtually eliminated. Our recent research study found that 82 percent of
patients report an increase in quality of life after treatment, and 60 percent
of those who took a pulmonary function test saw improvement. J
Q: HOW CAN OUR READERS CONTACT THE LUNG INSTITUTE?
A: We have a team of patient coordinators ready to answer questions and
to help determine qualification for investigative stem cell treatment. Anyone with questions about qualifying can call (855) 882-1292 or find us at
Lunginstitute.com/LivingWell. J
