K&S Pharmacy keeps up with the times
K&S Pharmacy, now in its seventh year of opera-
tion in downtown Avon, is keeping up with the times,
according to co-owners Karla Schneider and Sarah
Grutsch.
Patrons now have new options for filling their pre-
scriptions. K&S Pharmacy can fill orders sent electron-
ically from area clinics. They can fill them by phone
call, text, email or people can order refills through the
K&S Pharmacy website as well as a new phone app at
“pocketrx.”
“We give more personalized service,” Schneider said,
which includes delivery of prescriptions.
The flourishing business located at 107 Avon Avenue
South, was founded in May of 2012 at the request of
local patrons to establish a pharmacy in Avon. Both
Schneider and Grutsch, who are sisters, had been em-
ployed at Albany Apothecary at the time. They found
the present location, and K&S Pharmacy was born.
Today K&S still utilizes the original interior design,
including shelving, display areas, and the pharmacy
space. However, many of the departments have been
expanded.
“We are now a UPS drop site,” Schneider said. In
addition, “In general we have a lot more products, and
a bigger variety of products. We have also added a few
more brands.”
Greeting cards for 99 cents and $1.99 are a cus-
tomer favorite at K&S Pharmacy in Avon. The card
department has been greatly expanded, with some-
thing for everyone and for every occasion.
Medical supplies have been expanded to include
walkers, canes, crutches and more basic medical sup-
plies.
A hit with patrons is the addition of the instant pho-
to machine kiosk. “It is very well used,” said Schneider.
“People can print photos from their phones, or camera
cards or Facebook.”
The vitamin department has been expanded as well,
and the business has added more essential oils and ho-
meopathic products.
Greeting cards are a favorite in the business, and this
department has also expanded the Cards and Such line.
“Cards are 99 cents and $1.99,” Schneider said.
The shop includes a large selection of Albany High
School Huskies apparel, as well as the newest Albany
Spunktacular festival T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies.
Tuesdays are Senior Day at K&S Pharmacy, and pa-
trons age 60 and older will receive 10 percent off all
their over-the-counter purchases.
In addition to all the merchandise and services, K&S
Pharmacy staff has increased. Dana Crumley, a reg-
istered pharmacist is now employed part-time, along
with Brian Schneider, Karla’s husband. Karla, a reg-
istered pharmacist, and her sister, Sarah, a registered
pharmacist technician and business manager, also
work full-time.
K&S Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday,
from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are from 8 a.m.
to noon. The business is closed Sundays.
Being closed Sundays allows the Schneiders and
Grutsch time for their active families.
Karla and Brian have five children. Kate has gradu-
ated from Gustavus Adolphus College and lives and
works in Madison, Wis. Erin has graduated from
South Dakota State University and is employed at
the St. Cloud Hospital. Kasy is a senior at Mankato
State University. Olivia will be a senior at Albany High
School in the fall, while Logan will be a sophomore at
Albany High School.
School activities the family follows and participates
in include wrestling, swimming, gymnastics, basketball,
softball, baseball and track.
Grutsch’s family includes husband, Ben, and 4-year-
old Ainsley Marie. Their family is soon expanding to
