Update on Sam Mikulak

Update on Mikulak's senior year at the University of Michigan, future Olympic goals, and fun facts.

Daily Gymnastics: Are you working on any new skills or upgrades to your routines?

Sam Mikulak: I was working on a lot of skills at the beginning of the season, but now it's time for routines. I added an air flare on floor, a stalder rybalko and triple double on high bar, and I have some upgrades on pommel horse, but I might not compete them due to consistency factors.

Daily Gymnastics: This is your last season at the University of Michigan, but you have plans to compete for the U.S. at the 2016 Olympics. How are you pacing yourself to be ready for Rio?

Sam Mikulak: We've made a plan since the 2012 Olympics as of where I want my routines to be every year leading up to 2016; that way it is not a giant jump from low start value routines to extremely high value routines. There needs to be a transition period where I can go from little baby steps into the 2016 competition season and still be confident and prepared for that high level competition.
