become dysfunctional where peace is at stake . Therefore , it is necessary , to identify the characteristics that will allow them to be durable , resilient and operate smoothly , in the difficult and uncertain environment of emerging crises .
Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence , Unmanned Air Systems , Laser Applications , electronic warfare systems and various types of interceptors - are now pervasive in the Defence sector and deliver Efficiency and Durability : Autonomous Systems , Cyber ​Defence , Laser Weapons and Decision Making Support and Battle Management Systems , have now become a necessity in the military environment .
In addition , what ultimately unchanged and remains clear , is the mission of all Armed Forces to maintain the capabilities of conducting military operations adapted to this new environment . This presupposes the effective utilization of any kind of Technology , which eventually will provide them with a competitive advantage . In fact , Technology attracts different talents , brings out skills and really contributes to a level , where data knowledge skills will be considered as essential as the handling of various weapons , thus allowing a multi-level and flexible flow of talent between Defence , Industry and Academic Community .
There is no doubt that the National Guard can respond effectively to the aforementioned threats , constantly moving forward in a strategic direction and taking advantage of the emerging contacts between the private and public sector , universities , and research institutions . However , I am obliged to reiterate though that , the military environment in and around Cyprus , is constantly deteriorating . Thus , the demand for constant vigilance and for maintaining the National Guard as a reliable deterrent force to confront any situation that may arise , will continue to be vital and of high priority .
In conclusion , threats will not be reduced . In fact , security prospects are more dangerous and unpredictable than in the past . The Sudan case we all went through the past days , with Cyprus playing a vital role in supporting the evacuation operations and acting as a safe hub in the area , is a prominent example . However , the strongest and the most agile in the Operational Field will finally prevail . Undoubtedly , the maintenance of these characteristics by a modern army is a highly demanding mission . Its success will be facilitated by the proper utilization of all available power multipliers , both the traditional as well as the contemporary ones . Undoubtedly , the use of state-of-the-art equipment and innovative technologies in the Defence Sector , although requiring multiple resources , at the same time are included in our vision and planning for stronger , not effective cost , Armed Forces .
