Cyprus, the island of love, surrounded
by clear blue seas of the Mediterranean,
and nestled beneath Turkey and Greece,
close to Syria.
Cyprus is well known since ancient times as
the Island of Aphrodite, the Goddess of
love and beauty, as it is believed she, to
have risen from the coast of Paphos,
Cyprus. Where you will find ‘Petra tou
Romiou’,The birthplace of Aphrodite, where it’s
said that she was born of foam of Uranus’
genitals and was brought to the shore upon a
scallop shell. Aphrodite adorns the island of
Cyprus, from her birthplace in Kouklia, to her
Baths in the Akamas forest (north coast), as well
as many businesses, hotels and places who have
taken on her name today.
There’s never a dull day in Cyprus!
In 1974, Cyprus was invaded by the Turkish in a
bid to rule Cyprus, during this period,
Greek Cypriots moved to the South of Cyprus
and Turkish Cypriots to the North
and even still today the island remains divided
with 37% of the island (North)
belonging to Turkey and
the city of Famagusta
remains inhabited and
closed.
