WELCOMED OR STRANGERS...???
–  Did you come to London from Cyprus?
What was the first difference you felt?
–  London, by itself, is a unique city,
almost a State of its own, with 70%
population represented by foreigners. Any
ethnic group or nationality you can imagine
will most likely be in London. People,
however, treat each other with greater
respect than in Cyprus. For example, think
of the traffic lights turning green and you
are caught in the thick of it, with motorists
signalling you from behind. Well, that’s not
the case in London, or at least speaking for
myself, I am yet to experience any form of

vulgar or anti-social behaviour, like the kind
I see in Cyprus. There are, however, some
Brits who dislike London, complaining that
all the bad people have left the villages for
London.
Foremost, I was amazed by the
architecture and the tidiness of the place,
the City is green with huge parks in almost
every area. London is home to the biggest
park in England, Richmond Park, where one
can see free-walking deer, foxes, and even
wolves! People cycle there, family life looks
thrilling and exciting, with moms and dads
with their children of all ages all cycling,
wearing helmets and followed by the family
pet, which will most likely be a dog, or a
father pulling a baby-cart attached to the
bike behind him with a new-born. The core
of British culture is the family.
My positive opinion of London is based
on me living in the centre of it, in one of the
affluent areas of the city — ​Kensington and
Chelsea. It is popular with Russians, Arabs,
and the people who love comfort, beauty
and clean areas. It is surrounded by parks — ​
Holland Park, Hyde Park, Green Park, dotted
with flowers and neatly cut lawns. Posh
areas are almost totally free of crime as
the city is filled with CCTV and the police
are always on guard. The police in England
