FRONTEX
Alessandro Signoriello is, since 16th January 2019, Senior Coordination Officer of Coast Guard Sector, Frontex
Coast Guard and Law Enforcement Unit (Operational Response Division).
For more than 20 years, he served in the Italian Guardia di Finanza as an officer and mainly dealing with Law
Enforcement Maritime activities at operational and strategical level. He joined Frontex for the first time in
2006, as Seconded National Expert. He was operational officer in the Frontex Joint Operations Unit, Sea Border
Sector, and has been Project Manager of various Joint Operations implemented in the Mediterranean Sea and
Atlantic Ocean.
When he joined Frontex for the second time in 2014, as temporary agent, he served as Coordinating Officer
within the Operations Division; he was responsible of the general coordination of the Frontex Joint Operations
implemented in the Western Balkans (Croatian and Hungarian borders with Serbia) and at South-Eastern
European land borders (Bulgarian and Greek borders with Turkey).
Alessandro Signoriello has Master of Strategic Border Management, postgraduate degree in Economic and
Financial Security Science and has University degree in Law.
"The European Cooperation on Coast Guard Functions"
I will introduce the Interagency Cooperation (Frontex, EFCA and EMSA), including implementation of three
Technical Subcommittee and the Annual European Coast Guard Event.
Then, I will provide a brief presentation about the Multipurpose Maritime Operation (concept of MMO), giving
an overview on Ad hoc MMOs (implemented at the Black Sea).
Moreover, I will present the Frontex “Permanent” Joint Operations, implemented in Mediterranean Sea
(where Frontex deploy “selected” Officers (so called European Coast Guard Function Officer – ECGFO) in order
to support the implementation of the European Coast Guard Function).
Last, but not the least, I will present the drill organized by Frontex Agency, focused on SAR activities.
