Dr. Stella Hadjiyiannacou was born in Larnaca, Cyprus, on May 2, 1977. She received the Bachelor and PhD
degrees from the University of Cyprus in 1999 and 2004, respectively, all in Chemistry.
Dr. Hadjiyiannacou has published numerous research papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings
in the fields of macromolecules and polymers.
Currently she is the Coordinator for Energy Affairs at the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of
Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus. Prior to this position she was a Lab
Assistant at the State General Laboratory.
In addition, as from June 2018, she has been appointed by the Council of Ministers as the representative of
the Ministry of Energy at the Board of Directors of the Natural Gas Public Company of Cyprus.
"Cyprus' LNG Import Project and NG Market Formation in Cyprus"
Following the completion of a feasibility study in 2016, the Goverment of Cyprus decided to proceed with the
development of a facility to import, storage and regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Vassilikos area.
For this reason a relevant tender was announced on October the 5 th .
The LNG Import Terminal (the “Project”) wil include a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a jetty for
mooring the FSRU, a jetty borne gas pipeline and related infrastructure. The Project will be completed in 2020
and has secured a funding of 40% of the CAPEX, up to €101 million, as a grant from the EU under the
Connecting Europe Facility financial instrument.
The presentation deals with the current market conditions, the decisions to import LNG and the timelines and
way forward for the completion of the Project.
