Mr George Karkas joined the Police on 29/10/1996 and finished the Police Academy in November 1999.
He served fo many years to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Nicosia. In 2007 he was
promoted to Sergeant and in the same year he was transferred to the Cyber-Crime office in the position
of deputy director of the office. In 2010 he has finished his Bsc (Hons) Crime and Criminology degree
from the University of Portsmouth of UK. Moreover, he has received training in handling juvenile
persons in violence from FBI USA for two months and further education both abroad and in Cyprus on
computer forensics.

The presentation covers the functions and responsibilities of the Office for Combating Cyber Crime &
Digital Forensic Laboratory concerning the investigation of cases and evidence examination.
It also covers the basic legislation that exists in Cyprus concerning the Cybercrime and particularly to
the electronic attacks on information systems.
