March 2018| 93 Base Camp Biescas Lying at the southern end of the Valle de Tena with lots of great climbs and routes, Biescas is perfectly placed for cyclists. Cycle straight from the door The real beauty of Biescas is the variety of routes that you can do straight from the door. For the toughest rides head north into the Valle de Tena where you can tackle the category 1 Col de Portalet. From there you can either continue on into France and the famous Col de Aubisque, or head back down the valley on the old road. The steep 800 metre climb to BaƱos de Panticosa is another firm favourite for local cyclists. Other climbs direct from the village are the Collado de Cotefablo, a 13km, 600 metre climb along a windy mountain road and the two climbs to the villages of Espierre and Aso de Sobremonte. If you fancy resting your legs, the flat (well Pyrenean flat!) glacial valley of the Serrablo takes you through winding country lanes and medieval hamlets. The famous cols of Aubisque and Tourmalet are only a short drive away should you wish to test yourself against some of the toughest climbs of the Tour de France. Where to stay 4* Hotel Tierra de Biescas This Bike Friendly hotel is perfect for cyclists with bike storage and maintenance facilities, outdoor and indoor pool with sauna, gardens to relax in and massage service to treat those aching legs.
