4 | Cycling World & Questions Covering You and Your Bike Answers The icy starts to the day are falling back as we edge to the start of spring, it won’t be long before we add cycling regularly into our weekly mix. Here at Cycling World we want to make sure your cycling season is as rewarding as possible. We will be covering bike safety, events, riding tips and security. This month we talk to Philip Cooper the marketing director of cycling specialist PedalSure about what’s new in Cycling Insurance. Cycling World: Tell us about PedalSure, when did you start and why? PedalSure: We launched PedalSure in 2015. Our primary reason for entering the Market was to address the lack or limit of personal accident cover for the cyclist. Cycling World: What is the difference between Personal Liability cover and Personal Accident cover? PedalSure: Good Question! These are often muddled up. Personal Liability is the cover that pays out to anyone/anything that you damage. It’s generally reasonably priced at about £1 a month for £1m cover on PedalSure. But Personal Accident cover is what protects you. Cycling World: What levels of Personal Accident cover do you offer at PedalSure? PedalSure: We still offer unrivalled levels across three packages, Bronze, Silver or Gold Containing Personal Accident cover from £35,000 to £150,000. They also extend allowances of Personal Liability from £1m to £2m and include Dental, Physio and Legal plans. Cycling World: PedalSure: It’s all a matter of personal choice, but our Job is to provide the widest options for our policyholders, and we do. We believe that cyclists should enjoy the same range of benefits that you would expect in Car Insurance. After all, we all know that cyclists are more exposed to the elements and other road users. Doesn’t that justify a cyclist to deserve an adequate choice? Cycling World: PedalSure: Why do you think £150,000 of Personal Accident cover is necessary for a Cyclist? We have all had or know somebody who has had a bike stolen. How does Your theft cover work? Our policyholders can either cover their bike, themselves or both. Most home insurance only covers the bike in the Home. PedalSure covers Theft from inside the home, outside the home(with a suitable lock) and also Accidental Damage (whoever is at fault). Cycling World: So what you are saying, is that many people who just add their bike to their home insurance don’t realise it is unlikely to be covered for theft outside the home or accidental damage PedalSure: This is correct, and some even think the £1m Personal Liability included in their British Cycling membership covers them for an accident. Cycling World: We know a lot of our readers do Sportive at the weekend. Do PedalSure cover Sportive, Triathlon, Track or MTB events? PedalSure: The good news is that we cover Sportive as standard. For a nominal 5% surcharge in premium we include an option for other competition use. If Triathlon is your sport you will be pleased to hear that cover all segments if personal cover is included and transition if bike is selected. Cycling World: We know some cyclists like to take their bike’s overseas for holidays and events. Do you have an cover option to suit them? PedalSure: We certainly do. PedalSure provide a 30 or 60 Day overseas option for 5/10 percent addition to premium. We also include cover during air-transit as long as you keep your check-in receipt.
